The monuments were found during renovations of the structure in Radzyń Podlaski, once the home of a famous Hasidic dynasty, and have been saved by local volunteers. The Nazis apparently used them as paving stones.

Scores of Jewish tombstones dating from before the Second World War were discovered this week in the Polish town of Radzyń Podlaski near a building that served during the Holocaust as a local headquarters for the Gestapo and later for the Polish secret police.
